Waterbed Conditioner

Waterbed conditioner is an essential product for properly maintaining your waterbed so that it gives you years of proper performance and comfort.  Some people who make the initial investment in a waterbed do very well at taking care of it the first few years, but then go longer and longer between treatments with a waterbed conditioner.  This is a mistake than can cause problems long term.

Using waterbed conditioner on a regular basis protects your waterbed in several ways:

  • It prevents the build-up of bacteria and slime inside your waterbed due to the stagnate nature of standing water.  Although your waterbed is a closed system and very little air gets to it, over time bacteria and germs will develop.  Waterbed conditioner kills the bacteria and gets rid of the slime.
  • Waterbed conditioner prevents that odor that is a result of bacteria build-up.  Some people complain that over time a waterbed develops a “smell.”  This is because they haven’t been properly conditioning the water.  If you don’t condition regularly, you will find yourself having to drain the bed and refill it with fresh water more often.
  • Waterbed conditioner prolongs the life of your waterbed mattress.  Because the mattresses are made of vinyl or some combination of materials that contain vinyl, you should use waterbed conditional regularly because it conditions and preserves the material, preventing cracking, splitting and small leaks.
  • Bubbles can build up in a waterbed over time, causing gurgling sounds and discomfort as the float to the top of your mattress.  A good waterbed conditioner eliminates bubbles, improving the quietness and comfort of your mattress.

Adding waterbed conditioner takes only a few minutes.  Generally you will also want to wait a few days and burp your mattress again after the addition of the conditioner.  After that, you’re set for anywhere from three months to a year, depending on the brand of waterbed conditioner and the type of mattress.  Since this controls odor, bacteria and early wear of your mattress, doesn’t it make sense to invest a little bit of time and a small amount of money in using a waterbed conditioner regularly?
